Cozy Up With Some Good Books

Duck Commander Devotions for Kids has been a fun book to read Esther at night. We always read her a Bible story before bed, and this book provides a nice alternative. There is a Bible verse given, a story, and a very practical application given.

This book will probably be more beneficial as she gets older, but right now this momma likes having a little different format for reading our bedtime Bible story.

Thanks to BookLook Bloggers for our copy of Duck Commander Devotions for Kids.

I love the book The 5 Love Languages. Scott gave me a hard time while dating that I gave him this book to read before I told him that I loved him.

I have looked forward to reading The 5 Love Languages of Children for a while. Although, the recommended age for truly figuring out a child's love language isn't til 5, I think it is good to think about how I can show Esther love.

I really liked the chapter about how to discipline a child with the knowledge of their love language so that you make them feel loved while disciplining them. Not something that I had thought a whole lot about before.

Thanks to Moody for providing me with The 5 Love Languages of Children in exchange for an honest review.

I recently heard about a lady at my church who has chickens and eats about 5 meals of eggs a week. I saw The Perfect Egg: A Fresh Take on Recipes for Morning, Noon, and Night as a book to review and I immediately thought of her family.

The recipes in this book are definitely not just eggs for breakfast. I tried the recipe for Hawaiian Sweet Rolls. Wasn't super impressed. :(

I love that there are pictures of every recipe. That is the kind of cookbook that I like! I like that it has a hard cover as well.

Just Do Something: A Liberating Approach to Finding God's Will is a book that I had requested on paperbackswap.com a while ago. Never came available when I had credit with them. So when I saw that I could review the book through Moody, I jumped on the chance.

I think the main thing that stuck out to me in this book is that we stress so much now about what God's will is. There are a ton of options and we have to weigh all of them. Our ancestors grew up and did what their parents did because that is what they knew to do. They married a Christian in their community because those were their options. We are a society of options. Not always a good thing!

He also impressed the fact that 1 Thessalonians 4:3 says, "For this is the will of God, your sanctification." Sounds a lot more simple to seek sanctification than to search every option at every turn.

  1. Thanks for sharing these reviews, Lydia! My husband and I sometimes watch old episodes of Duck Dynasty on Amazon (we were very late to the Duck Dynasty party) and think the show is funny. :) We don't let our kids watch it, though, because it's not exactly a show we want them learning from. I do love the fact that they're Christians and the devotions for kids book sounds like it's worth checking out.

I hope you and your family have a great weekend!
