The New American Heart Association Cookbook (Book Review)
The New American Heart Association Cookbook came at the right time! My uncle just had a heart attack at the age of 54. Our family has had several people with high cholesterol and with young heart attacks. So, I think I need to spend some time with this cookbook.
One thing that I like about this book, every recipe has nutritional information after them. Good for me to think about.
One thing I didn't like about this cookbook, no pictures. I struggle when I don't get to see a picture.

Cozy Up With Some Good Books
I love how Claire wants people to focus on their goals, but then gives them strategies to be able to get things done so that they can enjoy life.
Thanks to Moody for a copy of this book.
For me, this book would be a good coffee table book where you could read as time permits. Not really a book that I really wanted to sit down and just dive into.

I like to have a bad attitude and complain too much. This book works on that attitude. Youch. Can't say I am loving this book, but I am needing this book.
Thanks to Moody for a copy of this book.

One recipe for roasting a chicken interested me. They fried the chicken in a cast iron skillet on all four sides before putting the chicken in the oven. Maybe some day I will have to try this method.

Cozy Up With Some Good Books
There were a few things that bothered me, that seems to be a theme with kid's books, part of the story was not Biblically accurate. For example, Haman was arrested and not killed.

More Than Just the Talk: Becoming Your Kids' Go-To Person About Sex
I hadn't realized how accessible not appropriate matter is. Grand Theft Auto. Oh my! I never realized that gamers find a prostitute, choose the kind of sex you have with her, then kill her. I didn't realize how graphic. Yikes! And that is just the start.
This book will definitely get kept for future reference.

Cozy Up With Some Good Books
I loved all the pictures in the book. Makes me want to infuse water all the time just so that I can have pretty jars full of water! Simple recipes that look like a lot of fun!
I never really thought about the need to muddle, or smash, the fruit when you put it in water. Makes a whole lot of sense to get the flavor out.
One of the infused waters that I thought was interesting has grapefruit, jalapenos, and agave. This mixture sounded interesting to me. Not sure I would be a fan with the jalapenos in the water, but might have to try some grapefruit water.

Cozy Up With Some Good Books
In one of the first chapters of The Set-Apart Woman: God's Invitation to Sacred Living, Leslie talks about making the things of God our first priority. Not going to the tv, or my guilty one- facebook, to fill out time. She said when she spends her free time focusing on God, her life is far more fulfilling.
I was really challenged by that discipline and have been trying to read a chapter in a non fiction book each day before picking up a fiction book.
Leslie's challenges were very convicting and she wove Scripture throughout the book. I was definitely blessed by having the chance to review this book.
Thanks to Tyndale House for allowing me to review The Set-Apart Woman: God's Invitation to Sacred Living
Thankfully, with Esther, my mom made most of her purees last summer. I did make carrots and I remember cooking them forever. There is a chart in this book that says exactly how long you need to steam your fruits and veggies before pureeing them. How handy would that have been when I kept bugging my mom that my carrots were still too hard!
Esther is now eating mostly finger foods, but there is a section in this book about those as well. Creamy Fruit Roll Ups look really good to me!
I love all the variety of recipes that are in this book.

This book kinda had a sci-fi twist to it.Took me a while to get into it because I hadn't read the first book in the series.
There is a battle of good and evil. Interesting book, but not one that I am gushing over.

Cozy Up With Some Good Books
This book will probably be more beneficial as she gets older, but right now this momma likes having a little different format for reading our bedtime Bible story.

I have looked forward to reading The 5 Love Languages of Children
I really liked the chapter about how to discipline a child with the knowledge of their love language so that you make them feel loved while disciplining them. Not something that I had thought a whole lot about before.
Thanks to Moody for providing me with The 5 Love Languages of Children
The recipes in this book are definitely not just eggs for breakfast. I tried the recipe for Hawaiian Sweet Rolls. Wasn't super impressed. :(
I love that there are pictures of every recipe. That is the kind of cookbook that I like! I like that it has a hard cover as well.

I think the main thing that stuck out to me in this book is that we stress so much now about what God's will is. There are a ton of options and we have to weigh all of them. Our ancestors grew up and did what their parents did because that is what they knew to do. They married a Christian in their community because those were their options. We are a society of options. Not always a good thing!
He also impressed the fact that 1 Thessalonians 4:3 says, "For this is the will of God, your sanctification." Sounds a lot more simple to seek sanctification than to search every option at every turn.
