Insignificant {Book Review}

Chris Taylor, the author of this book, moved to NYC to start a church. He felt like he needed to get himself settled into the area before he stated the church. He taught at a middle school for two years. The only thing about this school is that he was in the most dangerous public school in NYC.

During his first few weeks of teaching, he hit rock bottom. There was no support from the school system and the students had no respect for authority. Some of the stories that he tells leave me in complete shock.

He kept on though for two years. He realized that nothing that he could do would be significant. He was completely and totally insignificant. He started completely and totally relying on God in situations. I think it is interesting that he said that he thought he had been relying on God before, but he really hadn't been.

Once he started to let God work, He was able to be used to make a difference in these student's lives.

This book was a great reminder that God is the only one who can do things through me.

Thanks to Bethany House for letting me read and review this book.

Handmade Christmas Presents Linkup and Scarf Tutorial

Welcome to my first Homemade Christmas Gift Linkup!

I will be posting a linkup every Thursday until Christmas. I want to see what all you are doing for others for Christmas to get some ideas.

Here is a tutorial for a scarf I recently made myself. I had an old t-shirt that my husband had wrapped a present for me. I laid the shirt out flat.

I cut off both the bottom and under the sleeve.

I then cut that piece in half.

I cut down the side seem and then sewed these two sections together.

You are going to divide this section into thirds. I then found a sport on my machine that would help me stay straight. You could add a piece of tape or magnet to your machine to help with this.

Now comes the fun part! I tightened the tension on my machine.

I also adjusted the stitch length to the longest to give me a good basting stitch. These might be different on your machine.

You will know you have this right, when your knit comes out looking like this.

Do the same on the other side.

Once you have the basting stitch done. Return the tension and stitch length to the normal setting and stitch over the basting. Remove the basting and the scarf will gain some length.

Here is my finished scarf. Great way to still wear that old t-shirt that you aren't willing to part with!

The next Thursday I will feature a few of your projects for others to see. You must link back to this post on your project in order to be featured.

Kroger's Catalina Promotion

The other day I went to Kroger because they had a great catalina promotion going on. I got $50.36 worth of groceries for $19.22 and made $15 for my next order. This was a 61% savings and then what I got off my next order will make it greater!

I got free boxed potatoes. Can't say I am a fan. So what am I going to do? Take them to a potluck. Free potluck for me!

Below is one of the coupons that I used for the promotion. To see more of the matchups, click here.

The Little Things

Little Things
source
On Monday, I was reminded how we can find the blessings in the little things in life.

We went to an information session at a college, On our way there, we stopped at Starbucks to get our free coffee. Unfortunately, this Starbucks did not receive the machine to give you free coffee.

We continued on to the college. We arrived a little early, so we were able to enjoy a nice walk around a quaint little town. Unplanned nut nice exercise.

Before the session started, Scott and I were given coupons for free coffee! God knew we didn't really need two cups that late at night!

The information session was a blessing in and of itself. It gave both of us some peace about pursuing future education. We would love your prayers as we decide whether to pursue this option or not.

Afterwards, the director who was doing the session had a drawing. Scott won one of the prizes. He got a travel coffee mug that was stainless steel lined. We had just been talking that morning about wanting to get some of those, but that they were too expensive.

I am amazed when we stop back and look for the blessings in a day, we can find lots. Once I start focusing on the positive, other positive things come to mind.

What is one little blessing from your day?

Redneck Freezer Organization

Everything has a place, and this is not the floor as food is falling out of my freezer!

For some reason, my freezer does not have a shelf. Not a problem if everything in the freezer is square, but how often does that happen? Needless to say, that I had stuff fall out at me. Yikes!

My mom randomly had this rack at her house that came from some old appliance. She willingly cleaned it off and volunteered to get rid of the shelf.

Right now, I think that the shelf works perfectly. I feel a little redneck, but hopefully it will keep things off the floor.

Not perfect, but a little better. Man, I should have flipped over that pizza box!

What kind of redneck things have you done to make your life a little easier?

Book Review: The Deposit Slip by Johnson

Good clean mystery, suspense. These are things that keep me going when I pick up a book. Needless to say, I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Erin was needing a lawyer to pick up her case. The bank was denying her that her father's deposit ticket was valid. The deposit slip was worth ten million dollars. The only problem was that no lawyer wanted to pick up this case.

Jared was in need of some money and a break as a lawyer. He with some persuasion decided to take on the case.

With some twists and turns, the validity of the deposit slip is made very clear.

Throughout the book, forgiveness has to be given. Truth has to come out. And in the end right triumphs!

Thanks to Bethany House for allowing me to preview this book.

Dishcloth Complete!

A while ago, I was contemplating knitting or crocheting. I decided to knit a dishcloth using this pattern. I decided to start with this project because even an ugly cloth will clean my dishes!

I kinda forgot about needing to finish this project, until my husband got on the kick of seeing what TSA will allow on airplanes. I didn't think that knitting needles were allowed, but he found out that they are. Along with screw drivers under seven inches. And flare guns, but no flares. Don't get him started because he will keep going!

I decided I needed to finish this dishcloth before I felt compelled to take knitting needles on the plane!

Here is the completed project! Not perfect, but it will clean my dishes.

Now, I want to knit something else. I would love to hear some ideas that you might have or some free patterns that you have stumbled across. Leave a comment below with your suggestion!
