I did a little better this week than last. Laura, if you are reading this, you will be dissapointed in one of the things that I did not accomplish!

This Weeks Goals- I am branching out with 8...might not be good!

1. Coupon class notes
2. Run twice- once will be a 5k, not quite ready for that one!
3. Finish banners and list on etsy
4. Make and list 2 earring holders on etsy
5. Call 6 schools I have put my app in at
6. Pick and dry mint
7. Get things ready to take to Practically Perfect
8. Facebook page for blog

7. Pass out VBS flyers at the bus stop- I went but there were no kids :( They must have gotten out of school earlier than we thought. Oh well it got me out of bed!

I am very thankful for the men and women who have fought in order to give us the freedoms that we have today. When I think about the freedoms that we have been given, I also have to think about how often I take these freedoms for granted.

I was talking to my dentist the other day about the civil war. He was saying about how scary it would be to fear walking out your door because you don't know what you might face on the other side. 9/11 is the scariest event like this that I have faced, but I was not afraid of who was outside of my door. I don't have to fear for my life because of these brave soldiers.

The freedom that I think we take the most advantage of, is the freedom of religion.

When I was in Moldova several years ago, we were at a Bible institute. The students at the college came from a lot of the "stan" countries because they could study the Bible here without getting a visa, therefore their country didn't know what they were doing in Moldova. One girl sticks out in my mind. Gulia was in my small group that week. She spoke very little English and so we had to have one of the guy students translate, unfortunately his English wasn't the best either. Sweet girl, but with the langauge barrier, we had a hard time communicating.

Later, I found out that Gulia's father had promised her to be married to a muslim man. She did not want to marry this man because she was a Christian, but her dad didn't give her much of a choice. She found out about the Bible Institute, and her dad deciced to let her go and in doing this, she did not have to marry this man. Double blessing in her life!

She expressed to me that she was not aloud to read the Bible in her country because it was illegial. The guy who translated for me told one of the other team guys about how easy it is to be a Christian in America. We can wear a mask when it is convenient. When it isn't convenient, we can take it off and do whatever we want to do.

In their country, once they say they are a Christian, they are marked and there is not turning back. Simoly reading their Bible is enough to get them killed. What masks am I hiding behind today that make my Christian testimony null and void? I need to work on living my Christian life 100% of the time, even when it may cost me.

I am thankful for the freedoms that I have been given, but I also need to work on not taking those freedoms for granted.

Proverbs 31:11b- An Unfailing Prize

Proverbs 31:11b “He will have no lack of gain”

Back in the day of Proverbs 31, the husband would many times go to war in order to try to get wealth for their families. They could obtain wealth in other ways, but many times they were in need and therefore had to obtain the great wealth that war gave. Elizabeth says “She battles daily on the home front so that he doesn’t have to engage in wars or experience a ‘lack of gain’”!

The practicality of it now, what can I do to help keep my husband from the "war" of today.

I need to be contributing to the family finances, whether that is by having a job, or it is by being content with what I have.

Every decision you make not to spend money is money saved. If you want to have your husband home when they have put their time in at work, then don’t spend all their money. If we are doing that, then they will feel the need to provide and work extra.

#1 Own the assignment- Elizabeth took over the book keeping from her husband in order to give him the extra time. She suggests making some kind of contribution to the finances even if that is just using coupons-love that!

#2 Bone up on money management- learn what you can about personal finance

#3 Talk it over with your husband- follow his leadership and decide what is best for your family.

#4 Get set up for better money management- gather your supplies, pay bills online, set up book keeping system, etc.

Book Review: Chasing the Sun by Tracie Peterson

For the last several years, I haven't read a whole lot of fiction books. I have tried to fill my time with books that profit me a little more. Let's face it, that hasn't happened :)

I was given the book Chasing the Wind by Tracie Peterson by Bethany House Publishers to review. I definitely enjoyed the read.

I liked the historical context and the girl in the book was not given an easy road in life. She had to make the choice to follow God in the good and the bad, and we get to see what happens in the future. I am looking forward to getting to read the other books in the series.

Proverbs 31:11a- A Solid Rock

Prov 31:11 “The heart of her husband safely trusts her”

“When a man marries a woman who is mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually strong, he can confidently build his life, his work, and his home, trusting in her rock-solid character to be a cornerstone for his efforts.”

Elizabeth talks about how we as wives are to be the cornerstones for our husbands. We are to be the support of the family that allows him to trust in what we do. We are to be loyal to him.

What are some ways that we can be loyal? Elizabeth gives us some areas that we can be the rocks that our husband can build upon and trust us in.

#1 Take trust seriously- a faithful wife will be able to be trusted

#2 Keep your word- this is one we take for granted in our society. If I am not going to do something, better not every lead someone to believe that I will.

#3 Follow through on instructions- Do what I am asked to do, even when I don’t get it.

#4 When in doubt check it out- If I am not sure about something, check with my husband. Example is getting the car fixed.

#5 Be accountable- Let him know where I am and what is going on. Her example was that Eve was tempted when she was away from her husband.

Prov 31: A Sparkling Jewel

One of my friends texted me the other day to tell me that she is rereading Beautiful in God's Eyes for the third time. Does this tell you how good of a book this is? I am encouraged by this friend who has strived to be a woman of virtue while she is single.

“for her price is far above rubies.” Prov 31:10b

Elizabeth went to Israel with the purpose of finding out as much as she could about the Proverbs 31 woman. The first thing on her list that she wanted to see were the jewels in the land. She toured the museums looking for jewels, but anything of value had been taken years ago by conquering armies.

What she did find in the museum surprised her. Very primitive life gave signs of hardworking people and bare essentials when it came to the home. How exciting is that for your husband to come home to? Bare essentials. Elizabeth says that the Proverbs 31 woman is the sparkling jewel to her husband. “She brought the love, the color, the joy, the life, and the energy to the home.”

Would I as a woman be tempted to complain that I only have the bare essentials?

Would my husband be able to say that I am the joy to the home? No matter the circumstances, I bring the joy to the home.

The Little Things that Make a Difference

I was just talking to some coworkers today about collecting supplies for Medical Missions. I was saying how I was hoping to get some free things with coupons in order to be donate to the cause.

The one guy got to talking about going to India. He would take a suitcase of glasses in order to be able to give to the people. The people would dig through the glasses and their face would light up when they found a pair that would work for them.

It really is those little things that make a difference.

Matthew 10:42 "And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward."

Little is much when God is in it!
