Book Review: Against the Tide by Camden

When I started reading this book, I was immediately struck with the fact that the main character's name was Lydia and that her brother's name was Michael. In this case, the brother was younger.

There is an underlying fight against drugs throughout this entire book. I couldn't help but think how much this related to problems that we have in current day

Lydia had grown up in an orphanage who had given her medicine to help her calm down. Little did she know that this medicine contained opium. She continued to take this medicine into adulthood without understanding the consequences.

Lydia met and fell in love with a man, Bane. The only problem is that Bane had given his everything to fight against the opium trade. Bane would not allow himself to marry a drug addict, and he would also not put Lydia in the midst of his dangerous lifestyle. They both admitted that opium was wrong, but one of them was addicted.

Loss of job, kidnapping, Lydia attempting to save a child's life, and many more adventures keep you wanting more. Never a dull moment!

Good eventually wins and God is glorified, What other way is there to end any book?

Thank you to Bethany House for allowing me to read and review this book. You can buy Against The Tide on amazon.

Last week was a busy week. I didn't touch my computer from Sunday until Thursday night. Needless to say, I wrote down goals, but didn't get very far on them. I also didn't make the time to get online and post them.

Here are my goals for this week. There is some definite plans for family time! My list of goals is going to be a little shorter this week.

This Weeks Goals:
  1. List things on etsy
  2. Get ready for a book fair
  3. Post book review
  4. Get room ready for a bed
  5. Make 2 Christmas presents
I hope that you enjoy your holiday week. I am very thankful for the blessing of knowing that I will have a home in heaven some day with Jesus!

Book Review: Whispers in the Wind by Snelling

Nothing like being left with a cliff hanger. I want to know what is going to happen in the next book. Not many books leave me with the desire to pick up the next book, but Lauraine managed to give me that desire.

The Engstrom house is turned upside down when a visitor Cassie arrives at their ranch. She claims that she owns half of the ranch. The boys who have given their lives to build up the ranch know nothing of this girl's claim to the ranch. They aren't very accepting of Cassie and her claims.

Many struggles take place in the book including the following: not being accepted in the town, a family that is partially accepting, and a man that shoots Cassie.

Will she be accepted on the land that is rightfully hers? How will she support herself when her life with the Wild West Show closes?

Thanks Bethany House for allowing me to read and review this book.

Friday Finds Under Five: Christmas Decoration

A friend of mine Cindy who blogs over at So the Cook Said was telling me about one of her frustrations. People who think they get a good deal and really they have spent a lot of money on their deal.

She decided that she wanted to start a Friday finds under $5. I loved this idea. I am all about not spending a lot on things. I am going to join her in this venture. We would also love to hear what you have found under $5!

My find for this week comes from a neighbor lady. There are tags on the bottom that come from Big Lots. Each piece cost 5.99. I managed to land them for free.

I would never have bought this item, but I am picturing them at Christmas with some fresh pine and pine cones. I can almost smell it now. I am refusing to decorate for Christmas just yet. I will find somewhere to go and cut branches off of trees. My husband is probably thinking that he will get taken along on that adventure!

You will be hearing more about this neighbor lady in upcoming weeks. She passed away a few weeks ago. My mom over the years had befriended this lady, taking her muffins and visiting with her.

When the neighbor passed, her niece offered us stuff from the house. My mom came home with a kitchen aid mixer. Not bad! I will share with you some of my other finds soon.

Head over to Cindy's post to check out what she found this week. She added beauty to her house straight from the side of her road!

Goals: Week of November 5th

I am participating in a craft show this weekend. I am trying to clean out some of my craft supplies. My focus this week is to make things that I can try to sell this weekend. What I don't sell may have to be put in my etsy shop. My shop is currently sitting empty...

I am a procrastinator, so making stuff for this weekend has become a priority!

Last weeks goals:
  1. Make a calendar- I got an email today that this present is on it's way!
  2. Finish Christmas present I have been working on the last few weeks. My pile is off the floor! I have one of this project to finish, but I am not sure if it will be a Christmas present or not.
  3. Assemble pictures for Ellie's Christmas present- Didn't get this done, but it will be on hold next week until I am done with the craft show.
  4. Update Coupon Class Power Point
  5. Make yogurt and zucchini bread- yogurt was made
  6. Make 10 yo-yo balls- I can't count. I really thought that I was making 10, but ended up making 12. Didn't learn how to count when teaching preschool...
  7. List eBay items
This weeks goals:
  1. Go through my closet and get rid of things that I never wear
  2. Make hand warmer bags
  3. Give coupon class
  4. Set up booth at craft show
  5. Make zucchini bread
  6. Make a scrap tutu
  7. Make earring holder and to do list

Who will get my vote?

The day we have been waiting for, either because we care or because we are tired of hearing political stuff... is coming up next Tuesday. I saw this on facebook and thought that it was a great view on what the Biblical stance should be of voting. Take some time to think about why you vote for who you vote.

*I will vote for the most pro-life candidate, because God hates the shedding of innocent blood(Proverbs 6:17).
*I will vote for the most pro-Israel candidate, because God blesses those who bless Israel and curses those who don't(Genesis 12:3).
*I will vote for the most pro-debt reduction candidate, because the borrower is servant to the lender(Proverbs 22:7).
*I will vote for the most pro-work candidate, because God says if a man does not work, let him not eat(2 Thessalonians 3:10).
*I will vote for the most pro-marriage candidate, because God is for marriage as defined in (Genesis 2:24).
*I will vote for the candidate who most closely believes governments purpose is to reward the good and punish the evil(Romans 13).
*I will vote based as closely as I can on Gods word(2 Timothy 3:16),
I will vote for Romney/Ryan.... knowing whoever gets elected, God is the One who puts all men in authority(Daniel 2:21).
If you are offended by the fact that I stated who I'm voting for,....I would say I'm sorry.....if I were sorry, but I'm not. I still love my country, and I'm afraid that this may be our last chance to preserve it for our children.
Yes, I know that the only real hope for us is Revival, but I will not stand Idly by and watch as the America that my forefathers bled and died for is changed into something they would not even recognize.
May God have mercy on America!
